Benderloch and the Surrounding Area
Situated on the beautiful West coast of Argyll, Callanish is an ideal base, whether you are seeking a quiet holiday to recharge your batteries, or one packed full with something different to do every day.
The village of Benderloch boasts a licensed grocer, garage with well stocked outdoor shop, and a café, with several hotels and restaurants within a short drive. There is a beautiful sandy beach, rally karting, and many marked trails for walking and cycling, all within one mile of the cottage.
Within a short drive there is a Sealife Sanctuary, Pottery and Ironworks. A 20 minute drive takes you to Oban with its shops, supermarkets, two leisure centres, distillery, hotels, restaurants and bars. Oban is a port and has a variety of short boat excursions and ferries to a number of the main West coast islands including Mull, Iona, Staffa, Coll and Tiree.
Take a daytrip to Fort William to visit the Nevis Range Ski and Mountain Biking Centre or hike up Ben Nevis. Fort William and nearby Glencoe are important areas for walking, climbing, cross country cycling and wildlife. To the East of Oban explore the Royal Burgh of Inveraray - tour the Castle or sample punishments in Inveraray Jail. Drive South to Kilmartin with its standing stones and award winning museum. Also close by are the islands of Seil, Lismore and Kerrera with plenty of walks, ruined castles and cafés.
An excellent cycle track following the old railway line passes through Benderloch on its way from Oban to Fort William. There are several completed sections in the area.
